We would love to hear your news and views about anything that is happening in the swimming community. Maybe a funny story about your “water baby” or any upcoming events or activities.
To kick off our news & views section we spoke to World Champion swimmer Libby Trickett about her training program and what keeps her going lap after lap.
Bayswim’s first Shooting Star

Bayswim has launched a Shooting Star program.  The company’s aim is to sponsor two dedicated children in each state to help them achieve their dreams and goals. Warriewood based Jayke Rees is Bayswim’s first shooting star, he is sponsored for a twelve month period and during this time will receive continued support and encouragement and financial assistance. This contribution will assist his training and will help him to achieve his swimming goals of Olympic glory. Jayke met Libby Trickett (One of his idols) the golden girl of Australian swimming at Homebush where the official handing over of the cheque and Vorgee Swimming pack was presented, Libby’s words of encouragement has given Jayke much inspiration and hunger to do his best and never give up.  The youngster broke eight records at his recent school swimming carnival and is now in training for a spot in Pan Pacific later this year. We are looking forward to great things for this future Peninsula star, our first Shooting Star.

News & Views: Libby how do you keep motivated?

Libby: I stay motivated by just really concentrating on trying to make improvements to all aspects of my swimming. I love racing and look forward to major competitions, so competing in the small and the big meets helps me achieve both my short term and long terms goals which are all aspects of my motivation.

News & Views: What do you say to young kids who are interested in one day being in the Australian Swimming Team?

Libby: I would say that you only have to dream and believe, in order to achieve. If you train hard and commit yourself 100% to the goal then there is nothing to stop you. It is a great feeling to make the Australian Swim Team and to share the experience with so many other great swimmers. It’s a great goal to have!
